Resolve 'Workflow in use' issue when trying to delete a workflow

If you try to delete a workflow and see a Workflow in use message, the workflow is referenced somewhere else in your account; most commonly by a tracking number or a call flow. Nimbata prevents deletion to avoid breaking that dependency.

If you want to stop the workflow from running but aren't ready to remove its references, disable it instead. Toggle it off from the Workflows list. It will remain in your list but will not fire.

Step 1. Find what is using the workflow

  • Go to Workflows.
  • Open the workflow you want to delete.
  • Check whether the workflow detail view shows a Used by or In use by indicator listing where it is referenced.

If no indicator is visible, check manually:

  • Go to Tracking > Numbers.
  • Check whether any tracking number has this workflow assigned in its settings.
  • Go to Tracking > Call Flows.
  • Open each call flow to check whether this workflow is referenced in any action step.

Step 2. Remove the reference

Once you have found what is using the workflow:

  • If a tracking number references it, open the tracking number settings and remove or replace the workflow assignment.
  • If a call flow references it, open the call flow, locate the step that references this workflow, and remove or replace it.

Step 3. Delete the workflow

  • Go to Workflows.
  • Find the workflow.
  • Click the three-dot menu on the workflow row.
  • Select Delete and confirm.

🎉 The workflow has been deleted.
