Destination number verification: why it's required and how to complete it
- A destination number is the phone that actually rings when someone calls your Nimbata tracking number, typically your main business line, mobile, or call center number.
- Before Nimbata can forward calls to it, the number must be verified.
- Verification is a one-time step per destination number.
- Once verified, it stays verified unless you remove it from your account.
Why verification is required
Telecom regulations in most countries require carriers to confirm that a forwarding destination is a real, reachable phone number before it can receive call traffic.
This protects you and your callers from misdirected calls and ensures Nimbata complies with local number regulations.
How to verify a destination number
Nimbata verifies destination numbers in one of two ways depending on your country and number type.
Option A: Automated verification call
This is the most common method.
Step 1. Add the destination number.
- Go to Tracking > Destinations.
- Click + Add.
- Select the flag of the country the number belongs to.
- Enter the phone number and give it a name.
- Click Add destination.

Step 2. Answer the verification call.
- Click Verify. Nimbata will place an automated call to that number within a few seconds.
- Answer the call and follow the voice prompt, typically pressing a key to confirm.
- Once confirmed, the number's status updates to Verified and you can use it in call flows immediately.
Option B: Manual verification by the support team
For some countries, toll-free numbers, VoIP lines, and certain number types, automated calling is not available.
In those cases, the Nimbata team verifies the number manually.
Step 1. Submit a support request.
- Click the ? icon in the top right of your Nimbata dashboard.
- Select Submit a request.
- Include the destination number with country code and a note that you need it verified.
The team typically completes manual verifications within one business day.
Understanding verification statuses
Status | What it means |
|---|---|
Pending | Verification is in progress. This is normal — it can take a few minutes for an automated call or up to 24 hours for a manual review. |
Verified | The number is active and ready to receive forwarded calls. |
Failed | The verification call was not answered or was rejected. See below for how to retry. |
Unverified | The number has been added but verification has not been started yet. |
Troubleshooting: what to do if verification fails or is stuck
The verification call wasn't answered
The automated call goes out within seconds of submitting.
If no one was available to answer, the attempt fails silently.
- Go to Tracking > Destinations.
- Find the number.
- Click Re-verify to trigger a new call, or remove and re-add the number.
The number format is wrong
Nimbata requires numbers in the correct national format for the destination country. Common mistakes:
- Entering a US number without the country code — use
+1 XXX XXX XXXX, notXXX-XXX-XXXX. - Including spaces, dashes, or parentheses — use digits only after the country code.
- Selecting the wrong country flag before entering the number.
Remove the number, correct the format, and re-add it.
The number belongs to another account
If you see a "destination already exists" error, the number is already registered under a different Nimbata account, possibly a previous trial or a colleague's account.
Contact support with the number and they can resolve the conflict.
A red banner flashes and disappears with no error message
This is a backend validation failure, usually caused by a formatting issue or a number that is blocked at the carrier level.
- Click the ? icon and select Submit a request.
- Include the destination number with country code, the country it is in, and a screenshot of the error if possible.
Verification is showing Pending for more than 24 hours
- Automated verifications should resolve in under five minutes.
- If it has been longer than 24 hours, the verification call likely failed silently.
- Contact support to reset and re-trigger it.
The number is a toll-free, VoIP, or non-geographic number
These number types often cannot receive automated verification calls.
Submit a support request and mention that it is a toll-free or VoIP line so the team can apply the correct manual process.
After verification: what's next?
Once your destination number is verified, assign it to a call flow:
- Go to Tracking > Call Flows and open or create a call flow.
- Under the routing step, select your verified destination number.
- Save the call flow and assign a tracking number to it.
🎉 Your setup is complete. Calls to your tracking number will now forward to your verified destination.
