How to add your first Tracking Number(s)

Best for: New users setting up their Nimbata account for the first time.

A quick definition of tracking numbers

In call tracking, a tracking number is a unique phone number used to monitor and attribute phone calls to specific marketing campaigns, sources, or activities. This guide will walk you through setting up your very first number or pool.

How to set up your first tracking number in Nimbata

Step 1. Start the setup

Go to Tracking > Numbers and click on the + Add button.

Step 2. Choose your source

Select where you wish to place your tracking numbers:

  • All Online Sources: Track calls from various channels (Google Ads, Organic, Referral, etc.).
  • Specific Online Channel: Use this for a dedicated source like Google Business Profile or a specific landing page.
  • Somewhere Else: Use this for offline sources like billboards, newspapers, or business cards.

Click Next on the channel configuration page to continue.

Step 3. Determine your pool size

A Call Tracking Pool is a collection of numbers assigned to visitors while they browse your site. There are two ways to calculate your pool size:

  • Manually:

Enter your peak hourly visitors (found in GA4 under Audience > Overview > Users [hourly]) into the Nimbata calculator to see how many numbers you need.

Come back to Nimbata and click on the Get from calculator button. Then, insert your hourly peak visitors. Nimbata will give you the required number of tracking numbers based on your traffic and average session duration. Click on Use Pool to proceed.

  • Through GA4:

Click Get from Google to let Nimbata automatically sync with your analytics and recommend a pool size for you.

Click on Use recommended pool of X tracking numbers or select a specific channel and use the recommended pool for it only.

Step 4. Pick your numbers

Choose your prefix (State/City for US; City for EU/UK/AU). Select the numbers you like from the list and click Finish.

Step 5. Set your destination

Go to Tracking > Destinations and click + Add. This is the "real" phone number that will ring when someone dials your tracking numbers.

Select the country your destination number belongs to, type the number, give it a name, and click on Add Destination.

Tip: Tick the Create call flow box during this step to automatically set up the routing for your new numbers.

🎉 Congratulations! The Tracking Numbers are now yours. Continue with creating your first call flow in order to start receiving calls through your new tracking numbers.
