How to Track Calls from Google Ads Extensions & Call Ads

Track Calls from Google Ads Extensions & Call Ads

Tracking calls from Google Ads can be crucial for the success of your marketing efforts. Here's why:

✨ Measure Performance: Without call tracking, you wouldn't know which ads, keywords, or campaigns actually drive those valuable phone calls. This makes it difficult to optimize your campaigns and allocate budget effectively.

✨ Improved ROI: By understanding which parts of your ad strategy are driving calls, you can focus your spending on the most successful areas. This helps you maximize your return on investment (ROI) from Google Ads.

✨ Deeper Customer Insights: Call tracking can often reveal which landing pages or ad variations lead to more qualified calls. This allows you to tailor your ad messaging and website experience to better convert callers into customers.

Setting Up Call Tracking for Google Ads Extensions & Call Ads

Step 1. First, you need to acquire a tracking number. Go to Tracking > Numbers, choose “A specific online channel” and click Next.

Step 2. Choose “Google Ads Call Extension” and click Next

Step 3. Choose how many numbers you need.

Step 4. Choose Country, State, City and pick a number. Click Next.

Step 5. Assign a number to forward your calls to. Click Finish.

Step 6. If you haven’t done it already, go to Tracking > Call Flows and create a call flow.

Step 7. When you are done, go back to Tracking > Numbers and assign your numbers to the call flow.

Step 8. Now, you will turn on Call Reporting. Go to Admin > Account Settings > Call Reporting and click on the “On” button to enable it.

Step 9. Now, it’s time to add the tracking number to your ads. Go to an already existing ad, or create a new one. Scroll down to the “More asset types” section, open the menu, then go to Calls and click on the “+Call” button.

Step 10a. If you have already added your Nimbata phone numbers, then just select them and click apply.

Step 10b. If you haven’t, then click on the “+New call” button.

Step 11. Select Country, add your Nimbata phone number and if you wish, you can also set a schedule. When you are done, click “Save”.

What to Do if Google Disapproves of your Number

Sometimes Google will not verify tracking numbers from third party providers, when trying to place them as a call extension. If this happens, then do the following:

Step 1. Go to "Admin" and click on "Linked accounts".

Step 2. Find "Search Console" and click on "Manage & Link".

Step 3. Google will ask you if you want to link the search console to Google Ads. Click on "Link".

That's it! If the process is successful, you'll see "Linked" in the "Status" column. If for any reason you see any other status or the message that the account can't be linked to the search console, consult the relevant Google Ads Help section here.
